It’s finally here, Pantone 2014 Color of the Year is Radiant Orchid! This is not your daughter’s purple… not only is it radiant, but it is equally distinctive and multi dimensional.
When decorating with purple (especially if you are using it on the walls), it is crucial to use the correct shade to achieve your desired effect. A darker shade, as seen below, is moody and dramatic in this living room. Darker shades of purple are more masculine and translate with more ease into shared spaces.
A lighter shade, in addition to being more feminine, is also more casual and serene… great for a bedroom! Clean lines and symmetry tone down the bold color and mix of patterns in this perfectly executed design.
I prefer to use purple for accents rather than on the walls. Try adding a purple suzani (either hanging on the wall or simply draped at the foot of your bed or over the back of your sofa) in an otherwise neutral space for an instant layer of intrigue.
Looking to introduce some purple radiance into your home? This is a great opportunity to draw attention to a forgotten room or space. Try a purple runner in your hallway (Dash and Albert has some great options) or accessorize your home office with pops of purple. Take a look at this design board we put together for a home office.
